Winter is around the corner and soon we will be ready to pull out the snow boots and shovels. Before that happens, take some time to pay your deck some preventative attention.
For wooden or maintenance free decks, now might be a good time for a quick wash with a hose or a power washer. This will make sure that your deck is ready for the spring, and if it has any problems you can address them before the first snowfall. If you have a wooden deck, now might be a good time for some waterproofing. This will help it endure our harsh winters.
If you have any patio furniture cushions out, give them a once-over before putting them away. Spot cleaning or a trip to the washing machine now will mean less work for you in the spring. Always make sure you store them once fully dry, never store damp or wet fabric as it may mold and mildew.
Inspect all shades. If you have a sun sail, make sure that the rivets or holes for the strings are secure and not ripping, inspect all strings for loose or fraying fabric. Now is a good time to replace or note any abnormalities before you need them again in the spring. For any other forms of shade in your yard, do the same and note any loose or broken parts. Knowing what you need to replace now will help you in the spring.
Inspect the areas around your deck and patio. By now, some plants will be losing fullness or are just about ready to be cleaned up for winter. This is the perfect time to see if you have any problems around your deck, yard or fence. Your local community of squirrels, racoons or other animals may have made a hole in your fence or property that you can now see. Covering or fixing gaps can help your pets stay safe and happy.
